| This program is designed for high
school and collage aged teenagers to do with their class. This
is program is appropriate to run as a club or class in and of itself, or
for use as the support and training portion of a larger club program when appropriate
in-house support is available. With
High school and collage aged students we start each session off with a 15
minute warm-up, conditioning and stretching session. This serves to
help prevent injury, to help build strength & flexibility and to help
teach the importance of maintaining a healthy body. When appropriate,
we try to have students lead these warm-up sessions.
After the warm-up session we will typically teach a major skill of the
day. During this 30 minute session we teach students the ins and
outs of a specific circus skill or set of skills. These major skills
typically form the basis for small group, large group and whole company
acts. Please note that
the skills taught are dependant on the students in the program.
After the major skills of the day we have students break up to work on
the skills of their choice. During this time students may work on
any skill they choose to, while our instructors rove around, offering
training, guidance and advice where needed, but also encouraging students
to explore independently, and to both learn from and teach to their peers.
Each class typically ends with kids showing
the class what they have learned, and each session* typically ends with a
show for parents and friends.
Please note that students who take part in
this class are exposed to a wide array of circus arts. Most students
will spend time going from skill set to skill set until they find the
skill that best suits them.
* Please note that we don't typically put on
a show at the end of the first session we run in a school, as this first
session is focused on having the kids explore the properties of the
equipment, and develop basic skills
